Introduction

This blog is a labor of love--or, more accurately, cinephilia--conjured up in the summer of 2005 as a way of sharing the notes I was making on the movies I watched to an audience broader than one. It hasn't always been well-written or insightful (and some people have argued that it never has been and never will be well-written or insightful). Yet, against all odds, it's turned into a loosely respected member of the St. Blog's community and resulted in a "job" as a writer for a campus newspaper at Notre Dame. More importantly, it's helped me to write more and better, and to think more precisely about the cinema, and insofar as that was my main purpose in setting this blog up it's been a success. The blog will only be in pseudo-operation during the school year, with the exception of breaks and whatever I throw on the blog in my spare time. Until next summer, you can enjoy the limited posts and laugh at my various heavy-handed attempts at writing intelligently about film.

You'll see all kinds of movie reviews here--short ones and very long ones, on old movies, new movies, short movies, long movies, hard-to-find classics, rental store crap; basically whatever I can see. It's not a commentary on "what's out in theatres" or a news site on film. It won't be updated regularly at times so don't expect it to be.

A few quickies about me now that you have the germ of the website:
*I go to the University of Notre Dame in Indiana--the one with a golden dome and Charlie Weis.
*My day job is being an electrical engineering student and making sure my friends stay out of trouble whilst drinking. (The word "occasional" in the blog description is quite accurate--when I'm not on break, posting will be slim to none, although I write a lot so you'll have plenty to read even then). I want to go to law school after I'm through at ND.
*I'm from Fresno, CA, a cinematic backwater if ever one existed, and both of my parents are totally uninterested in most of the films I like. One of them is highly skeptical that anything good has come of screens ever.
*I'm a jazz musician (saxophones).
*I'm an orthodox Catholic.
*I'm politically, socially, and culturally conservative
*I've tried blogs before with little to no success. I'm just admitting this time that it won't be updated regularly and living with it, and it's not the kind of thing where people expect a post every day anyway.
*I'm an introvert whom everyone says is an extrovert.
*My glasses make me look like Rivers Cuomo, the frontman for the band Weezer

My theFacebook page has more info on this tangent than I could possibly dream up.

Enjoy!
